What Next?

One day you wake up and if like me, you brush your teeth and make your way to the kitchen downstairs. You look at all the dishes you put off for the morning. They needed to soak anyway. Coffee is on your mind.

I use a french press myself. Click the image to get one, I recommend them. Although I’ve never considered myself a coffee snob, I tried it once and there was no going back. I let the coffee brew for 4 minutes, then prepared a cup. As I sat at the breakfast table to sip my mug of brown gold, I reached for my phone. That was when I realized, I am in a rut.

What is next? Am I to wake up everyday simply to cook and clean? Sure, I have hobbies but what is next?

I suppose we all go through this questioning. It’s the ol’, “what am I here for” question. As humans, we are brought up to make a difference. Every father who loves their children will at one time or another think, “my child is special.” That child grows up thinking they are to change the world. It is a bit presumptuous, of course.

Still, the fact remains that I asked myself that cliche of a question that morning and have no answer. Every morning I will have to get up, get ready, cook, clean, repeat. Enter this blog. By now you will have likely figured I am no writer. Perhaps a blog isn’t the best way to care for this crisis. Hey, it was free to try so here I am.

I am a SAHD, for now. That is a Stay At Home Dad. No, I am not a deadbeat. I can confirm what housewives lamented in the 80’s. No one seems to care that the house is clean or we have underwear folded until it isn’t clean and we are digging though the hamper for a clean pair.

I know I am not the first dad to go through this. Maybe, someone will have some tidbit of enlightenment for me. Again, I have hobbies. I garden, dance, and dabble with photography. Keeping busy isn’t the issue. Perhaps I simply feel the need to do something important. What did you do when you asked yourself, “what’s next?”
